Today marks history for the incoming administration as the nationwide populace cast their votes with Duterte, Santiago, and Roxas leading most surveys, Binay and Poe remain on the bottom.
Kankanaey Tribesmen |
Notable was the participation of the Kankanaey tribe leader Bong Cawen.
Cawen travelled to Baguio City to vote and was assisted by his son and daughter.
The Kankanaey are natives from the Mountain Province.
Moreover, there were reports of delays due to the glitches in the Vote Counting Machines (VCM).
Such as in the Buhatan Integrated National School in Sorsogon, where the machine refused to read the ballots as there were ink marks on it.
They were able to continue operations by removing the smudges on the ballots and cleaning the machines.
Presidential candidate Mar Roxas |
Another issue made rounds in social media, as the VCMs counted Mar Roxas' name instead of the other candidates.
Though without evidence, the public speculated that the machines were tampered by and thus they called for clean elections.
The Board of Election Inspectors (BEI) were available for assistance, as written by the Philippine Daily Inquirer here: (http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/784014/faq-2016-philippine-national-and-local-elections)
Likewise, the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) will canvass the votes and declare the winners in the senatorial, congressional, regional, and provincial elections from May 13 to May 15, 2016.
The House of Representatives and the Senate on May 23 will convene a canvassing board for the President and the Vice President.
However, the election prohibitions will last until June 8 under the Comelec Resolution No. 9981
Newly elected government officials will assume office on June 30.
In another update, the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) is receiving fast paced data from 43% of the clustered precincts.
This will provide more time for the lengthy line of voters which extends outside of the precinct area.
There were reports of heat stroke circulating from morning to afternoon as the voters are exposed to the heat of the sun as summer season rises on May.
Precincts which opened from 9 in the morning will close by 6 in the afternoon.
Most areas started as early as 6AM.
The quick transmission to the servers is part of the benefit of the automated elections, which were recently introduced in the Philippines on the last 2010 elections, six years ago.
On a recent report, poll watchers from Cotabato City in Mindanao pulled out for safety reasons.
They received information of acts of violence in Maguindanao, where one was shot dead in Barangay Barurao.
An alleged rampant voting fraud caused the poll watchers to close down the voting precincts.
COMELEC Chairman Andy Bautista |
COMELEC Chairman Andy Bautista told reporters in a press conference that they have not received reports of failure of elections.
Meanwhile, the unofficial count was released on (http://halalanresults.abs-cbn.com/) this website.
